Varanasi, or Banaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living
cities in the world. Varanasi`s Prominence in Hindu mythology is virtually
unrivalled. Mark Twain, the English author and literateur, who was enthralled
by the legend and sanctity of Banaras, once wrote : "Banaras is older
than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice

VARANASI SHOPPER'S PARADISE
Varanasi has, since times immemorial, been hailed as a premier centre for some
of the finest handicrafts. The most renowned craft of the city is its silk weaving.
"Banarsi Sarees" produced by local craftsmen are among the
most preferred, not only in India but across the world. Brassware, copperware,
ivory ware, glass bangles, wood and clay toys and exquisite gold jewelry are
some of the other crafts the city is famous for.
Bhadohi carpets and musical instruments are among the other shopping attractions.
